During your studies
The student residence permit is renewed every year, subject to attendance and progress in your studies. We remind you of the deadlines and help you gather the necessary documents (enrolment certificate, transcripts, proof of resources).
Student work rights
With a validated VLS-TS or a student residence permit, you can work up to 964 hours per year, about 60% of statutory working time — the equivalent of about 20 hours per week on average. The employer simply has to make a declaration to the prefecture before hiring; exceeding this ceiling can jeopardise the renewal of your residence permit.
After graduation: staying in France to work
Depending on your nationality and your degree, you can apply for a temporary residence authorisation (APS, reserved for certain countries bound by a bilateral agreement) or a temporary “job search / business creation” residence permit (RECE), valid for 12 months and non-renewable. During this period, you can look for a job matching your training or create a business, while keeping the right to work within the limit of 964 hours until a permanent contract is signed.
